Say Good-Bye to the Hut

We are now in the middle of the "holiday marathon". It is really a wonderful time of year as the weather is just beginning to change and you can feel it in the air. Aside from the downpour of rain, Chol Hamoed (holiday weekdays that lie between the religious observant days) is a refreshing break from any restrictions and allows us to "play" and enjoy the holiday in a different way.  In Israel this is also a time called Simchas Beish Hashoeva. Basically it is a big rain party that dates way back to the Beit Hamikdash (Temple) times. We use this time here to get a "workout" in between food fests.

With that said, and since I have not attended a rain party, I'm beginning to feel the "burn out" from too much holiday (shhhh, I didn't really admit to that did I?). Our sukkah is wet from the rain, I lost my list of meals for the last 3 days, I'm trying to keep up with work in between all the fun, and I'm starting to miss my routine. Yet, there is a part of me that enjoys the excuse not to work and the regular breaks from corporate meetings (blah!).

My husband does not relate to this at all. He loves the holidays (and yes to all of you out there who might think otherwise, he contributes significantly to the preparation). But he likes the marathon of holidays and would prefer to live in a holiday theme year round.

The rest of us, as much as we enjoy them, still get the holiday burn out and require major exercise, routine and diet overhaul to snap us out of the lethargy caused by too much sitting, eating and dwelling. Basically we are creatures of habit and as for myself, I enjoy bringing G-d along during my weekday events.

With that said, we have one more 3 day up ahead of us culminating with Shmini Atzeret, Simchat Torah (the holiday for the exercise enthusiast ...and if you don't get enough of that during Simchat Torah then you might want to find a shul where the party and dancing are going on!) and Shabbat.

So here's to the end of the big party with G-d. Hope yours is fun- filled and inspiring. May the rest of your year be healthy, well, successful and filled with happiness....and good food:)  I'm already missing the hut!
