What's in Your Wine?

A little over a year ago, my husband mysteriously decided to start pouring a drop of water into his kiddush wine cup. He lovingly explained that the water represents "chesed" (i.e. loving kindness) and the wine represents "gevura" (strength). By pouring the water into the wine, you are combining the 2 giving some balance to the strength. Recently he started pouring the water (just a drop) into the entire wine bottle. Yes, I had to ask. Why? He said "its just a custom" (I find there to be fine line between customs and halacha). Anyway, so I (of course) asked, "Well what happens if you put too much water into the wine bottle, if you use it for several meals?" He said, "It's just a drop!" So it appears as if you can't have too many drops of loving kindness in your wine, these days; and I agree that that might be a good thing. At least I know what's going into our wine. I have a friend who visited a rebbe and he gave her and her husband a vial of "who knows what" to put into their wine each shabbos. They have no idea what's in the vile. Now, that is scary! Of course, I wouldn't suggest that the vile might have any less-than-desirable liquids in it. By the way, she is running out of her mysterious-liquid and will be needing to replace it soon. I think I will suggest the water to her.
